You've Come a Long Way, Baby.
Smoked Helles Lager
Smoke
Durham has a long history of making products from the farms that surround the city. Tobacco in; cigarettes out. But those days are long gone, as is the over-dependence on tobacco as a source of economic stability for the region’s farmers.
Truly local beer, like farm-to-table cooking, creates new opportunities for economic self-sufficiency for farmers, foragers, and agricultural entrepreneurs in a post-tobacco South.
That's one of the reasons this beer is 100% North Carolina malt...yet another Fullsteam beer with our "Plow to Pint" certification.
And if that's not enough of a reason, we're also honoring Head Brewer Jon's New Year's resolution to quit nicotine. You've come a long way, Jon!
Our nod to Durham's tobacco past is ever-so-slight, unlike the Hogwash of old or a heavily smoked Rauchbier. Riverbend's Pecan Smoked Wheat is mild with smoke more “talented supporting actor” and less “overacting star." Brite, clear, and golden, this is a smoked beer for non-smoked beer drinkers.
Durham was tobacco town. Today it's the South's Tastiest Town. You've come a long way, Dirty D!
